Ho Ho Ho!

Hey World,

I Love the holidays! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I've been enjoying my family in Chicago. It's so nice to be back and finally get a chance to relax!

My brother and I have been chilling, watching movies, working out with our trainers and going out together.

Jimmy is an amazing chef. On Christmas Eve, he made lobster tail and steak, veggies, and it was all delicious.

I want him to teach me how to cook! Lol. Jimmy lives in New York and it's so cool that we're both back for some quality family time. :-)

Last week, I went on a date with this cool guy I know from U of I. We saw Peter Pan at Lookingglass Theatre. It was the best play I've seen this year! Lookingglass is one of my favorite theatres. It was super intimate especially since we were in the front row/center section.

Chicago is a really great city. I got a chance to see my best girl friend Jamie and of course, Jason Kaplan! Jay and I have been spending time together and with my brother almost every day.

I'm looking forward to 2011, the best year of my life.

Love,
Lexi

I'm in the school play!

Loyola Marymount University, my beautiful school...the view at night! :-)

Hey World,

I'm currently in my last week of rehearsal of "Stages of AIDS" at LMU. I can't believe I am graduating college. It is so crazy. I'm thankful for the experiences I've had at the best school in the world, LMU. Also, how cool is it that I get to be in the school play my last semester of school!?

It's fun sometimes to enjoy being a part of an ensemble piece and learn about yourself and the other players. I'm glad that I decided to be a part of this philanthropic endeavor.

Anyway, life has been pretty crazy since the semester is coming to a close. My tv show has been going well...knocked out three more episodes and finalized season one. My classes are going well. I have to say, I love my acting class because we focus on the creative process.

Other than that, it was nice to see my family in Chicago over Thanksgiving. Plus, I had three photo shoots and one great film shoot in Chicago.

Okay so Stages of AIDS at Loyola Marymount is this weekend! 1LMU Drive: Saturday 2pm and 8pm and Sunday 2pm

Best Film Noir Award for PURITY in Beverly Hills

Hey World,

Last night was SO cool! I was shaking when I received my 2nd Award this year! WOW!! I am really thankful for this award for Best Film Noir. PURITY was such an incredibly rewarding experience and I'm blessed to have achieved success through a genre and subject matter that I am passionate about.

After the ceremony, I was insistent upon hitting my new secret spot. I love the ambiance there. Garrett and I talked about life and pretty much everything else. It was really nice.

Enjoy the pics!

Garrett is from my hometown, Hinsdale...he came in for the Awards Ceremony :-)

I Am Reaching My Main Goal!

Hey World,

I've been SUPER busy!! Working hard, as usual...

In just a few weeks I fly to Chicago to shoot the feature film Diary of a Virgin with Brandon Galatz and Garrett Schude. I'm so excited.

Afterward, I return to Los Angeles to work on a zombie film that is neo-noir. It's so exciting because both Diary of a Virgin and the untitled zombie film are film noir!

My goal for the end of 2010:

I want to be in the top 10,000 actors in LA.
(Over the past few months I have been moving up and down in the 20,000-30,000 range and I want to at least be in the solid top 10 by the end of 2010).

My main goal is to: completely focus on acting and working out. Aside from my philanthropic endeavors for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and AIDS research, I really want to focus my energy on just acting and working out.

I am passionate about two things: ACTING & WORKING OUT.....

In the meantime, my Radio/TV show, "Late Nights with Lexi" has been going very well.

I'm currently in rehearsal for Stages of AIDS at Loyola Marymount. Our show goes up in December. All proceeds go to three different AIDS organizations. Hellyeah for philanthropic endeavors in theatre.

Tonight I am receiving an award for Purity - BEST FILM NOIR in Beverly Hills.
:-)

Love,
Lexi

Favorite Fitness Tip: Get moving! Sir Isaac Newton really knew his stuff – “Bodies in motion stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.” Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is to find the time and motivation to get going. It doesn’t matter what type of activity you enjoy; every little bit helps! Try new things, especially if it’s something that frightens you; every time I contemplate trying a new thing and hear my inner voice saying, “Oh, I could never do that!” I know I met my latest challenge. Be willing to take risks, be brave enough to fall down, fear not looking foolish, and have the courage to be true to yourself. No matter what you do, know that KALYX is here to support you in your endeavors!

Favorite Indulgence: Spending time with family and friends, Watching the sun set over the Santa Monica Mountains, Vinnie Marino’s classes at Yoga Works, Wearing Jeans & Flip-Flops to the Office, Red Wine, Dark Chocolate, Fish Tacos, Fresh Flowers, Listening to Kid Rock, Kings of Leon and Fergie, Jewelry from Platino on Montana, Shoes…Jimmy Choo, Louboutin, Havaianas, Newton; and, of course, my black KALYX Uplift Sports Bra!

Inspiration: My mother, Carol…she is the strongest and most beautiful KALYX Woman I know. My family and friends: their encouragement, love and support keep me going day after day. My team: their creativity, dedication, energy, enthusiasm and passion continue to amaze me. My heroes: the brave women who have fought the good fight over the years, demonstrating courage and commitment in the face of great adversity, insurmountable challenges and shameful discrimination; women who through their efforts have broken down barriers, opened new doors, created opportunities and paved the way for so many female athletes and women in business. The debt of gratitude owed to these brave souls can only be repaid through our ongoing efforts to inspire and support one another, and, through our willingness to always be the change we want to see in the world...

Director DAVID CRABTREE on LATE NIGHTS with LEXI

Hey World,

Life has been constantly on-the-go, never stopping! This week was filled with pre-production meetings for the new, TV version of my radio show! LATE NIGHTS with LEXI will now become a "Howard Stern - Style" radio TV show.

In addition, I was cast in the school play! I am so excited to be a part of the cast of Stages of AIDS. I was craving a dark role...and it's here!

Sunday, October 10, 2010, I have a really cool guest coming in the studio! I'm so excited to have Director David Crabtree!

David directed the TV show, Psych and the brilliant film, Broken Dreams. This piece deals with serious univesral issues such as fear, loniless, and uncertainty. Broken Dreams exposes the human condition. It resonates with me because I could relate to all of the major emotions that were beautifully shared by the talented cast. I like the music and it's easy to fall in love with the lead character, Johnny. Eddie Navarro plays Johnny. He is honest and likeable. I love Kelsey Ford's work in the film. She seems to bring herself to the role as her upbeat spirit lights up the screen. Nicole Gerth had an astounding performance. Nicole won the 'Best Actress in a Supporting Role' award at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival. Nicole will also be making a guest appearance on the show tomorrow night!

Broken Dreams will screen at The Other Venice Film Festival on Saturday, October 16th at 1:30 PM.

BROKEN DREAMS TRAILER

DAVID CRABTREE was Born in Granada Hills, David grew up in the greater Los Angeles area. He attended Cal State Fullerton and received a BA in Communications. As a college student, David directed a short film called The Bedroom, which won the gold award at The Houston International Film Festival for experimental drama in 1994. After graduating, David has established himself as a television editor. His credits include NYPD Blue, Las Vegas, and Psych. David has also directed several short films and comedy sketches.

PLAYBOY BUNNY Donna Spangler on LATE NIGHTS with LEXI

Hey World,

Life has been super busy and fun lately. I'm so excited to have my special guest, Donna Spangler in the studio this Sunday night! Donna is definitely a role model. She is extremely motivated, hardworking, and successful.

Donna is also known for her appearances in Playboy magazine. She has also done several posters, calendars, catalogues and commercials. Donna has made TV & movie appearances in "Forces of Evil", "Guns", "Matilda" "Dinosaur valley girls", "In Living Color", "Blossom", and "Dinosaur Valley Girls" to name a few. Donna is also staring in "SPACE GIRLS IN Beverly Hills", which she wrote and produced. It is a SCI-FI romantic comedy about 3 space girls from the all girls planet Vanisia who land in the back of a wealthy Beverly Hills Playboys mansion.

onna Spangler was born in Southern California and grew up in Hollywood. She attended U.C.L.A. There, she was discovered by a photographer and approached to do a magazine cover. This started her modeling career. Shortly there after she got into doing commercials, TV shows, and movies. The former pin-up model did not feel that her acting career was moving towards the exciting roles that she craved, and realizing that she wanted control over her career destiny, she decided to start creating her own shows.
She has written "The Princess Formula: How To Get A Rich Man".

Here are some fun pics of Donna and me at the KALYX red carpet event in Beverly Hills last week.

Lexi

DANE COOK: on LATE NIGHTS with LEXI

Hey World,

This has been another crazy/busy week. It began with a bang when my best friend, Patrick, surprised me by coming in from San Diego. He helped me decorate my new place which now looks and feels amazing =] yay Then we celebrated by grillin & chillin, duh ;)

Last night I attended the KALYX red carpet event in Beverly Hills. It was very cute!

Anyway, listen to LATE NIGHTS with LEXI on KLMU. This Sunday Night, the greatest comic of our time, DANE COOK will be my special guest! I am so excited to have this comic genius on the show! Dane's awesome energy is contagious. The devilish sparkle in his eyes never dims as he utilizes his entire body, range of motion and hilarious facial expressions. His stage presence, charisma, and out-of-control delivery make him an effective rhetorician, as my professor Kyra Pearson would say. =] Besides, Cook is definitely skilled in social media.

I am so excited to hear, share with all of Loyola Marymount and the world the buzz about Dane's new "I Did My Best" Greatest Hits Album!!

He's so young and yet already released enough meaningful work that allows for this intriguing new album! Dane is also going on tour and you can purchase tickets here :P

Love,
Lexi

Dane: Why did you stop at a red light and let me hit you doing 80!! OH GOD! WHY! WHY DID YOU STOP AT A LEGAL RED LIGHT AND LET ME HIT YOU DOING 80!?!??!!

Courtney Cook Imagery

Hey World,

This week has been pretty crazy! Wow...I had a blast at the Beverly Hills Playhouse last night with Andrew Earl. Tomorrow is another Sony Pictures day...so excited to be back on my favorite lot! After I finish up my project there, I'm heading to my private session with Ron Marasco, my new acting coach. He's so funny. Today I met with Ron and I told him about my experiences at Stella Adler and The Beverly Hills Playhouse. He was like, "Or you could just read Ron Marasco's books..." Ron has appeared on Entourage, Medium The West Wing The X-Files, Family Law, Judging Amy, Murphy Brown, Good-Vs-Evil, Charmed, Angel, Martial Law, Enterprise, Nip/Tuck, Lost, Bones, and in the movie The 40-year old Virgin. I'm lucky to be studying with him.

Anyway, you have to check out my friend, Courtney Cook's work because it's dope!!

While driving down Sunset, you can't miss the cool ad above Laugh Factory for Courtney Cook Imagery.

Her work is simple and gorgeous. Check it out!!

Also, here's her fan page on facebook

Auditions Are the Story of My Life

Hey World,

School is going well. I'm taking all 400 level classes: Rhetorical Methods, Qualitative Research Methods, Debate, Relationships & Communication, & The Creative Process. I love Loyola Marymount! My best friend at school is my girl, J. She is amazing. This weekend we are actually going to some crazy oxygen bar party...

In addition, I am making plans to begin my radio show: "LATE NIGHTS WITH LEXI" ! I am so excited for my show! It's focused on entertainment, as well as sex, love and relationships!

Besides school, auditions are the story of my life! Today I have an audition for a new pilot for HBO. It feels good to be knocking out audition after audition!

What else? I just moved to Beverly Hills and I love my new gated community. It's super safe, located in a totally private, secret spot, & the actual property makes me really happy. The grounds are gorgeous. I spent nine months looking all over West Hollywood, the hills, Manhattan Beach, pretty much all the areas where I was interested in living and when I discovered this spot, I just knew this was it. It's funny because I had the same feeling when I stumbled upon my condo on Lake Shore Drive, in Chicago. It's the best feeling in the world when you find a place that feels right. It feels like home now. J helped me organize after my move!! We rocked out to stereo love and laughed a lot.

Sometimes it can be a challenge to balance school and acting because they both require much attention, but it all works out! School is my top priority

I heart LMU.

Lexi

Pretty Tough - A Pilot for ABC Family

Hey World,
I recently booked a pilot for ABC-Family, called "Pretty Tough." I am one of 5 girls who were cast as high school soccer players.

Working on this project was an absolute joy. We shot in Malibu.

When I arrived on set around six AM, I was hyper, excited, nervous and ready for an athletic day! As I pulled up through the hills, I panicked, realizing, I could not figure out where the actual location was. My GPS had led me to this massive hill of houses overlooking the ocean that was reminiscent of my beach house in Canada. I pulled over and quickly asked an older woman passing by my car, "Excuse me! Do you know where Westward Beach is?" I nervously exclaimed.
"There are lots of shoots there. It's a popular spot," the kind soul explained.

I was so lucky and nervous as I jumped back into my car, freezing in my sports bra and shorts. My heart raced as I climbed up the hill and around the bend toward the beach.

My eyes widened and glistened as I found the "secret spot." A congenial guard greeted me as I stalled at the entrance. She smiled and handed me an "actor pass" for my car. I pulled into the lot and could not stop smiling. A string of trailers lined the lot. Crew members carried large pieces of sound and lighting equipment off large trucks parked on the opposite side. Tents lined the area with abundant food, drinks and amazing snacks! I was in heaven.
(This is the actual beach where we shot)

I loved shooting this pilot bc it was SO much fun. Being on a big set again was SUCH a good feeling. I was so happy to be there.

We shot soccer drill scenes such as headers, passing, running up the canyon and swimming in the ocean. At one point, we all take off our shirts and jump in the ocean!

I have a bunch of scenes and a few sporadic speaking lines lolz! As a result, I am now joining AFTRA =]

It's the best feeling in the world when you love what you are doing and it doesn't feel like work. My dad always says, he wakes up in the morning and he is SO excited to go to court. My dad says he never wants to retire because he loves being a lawyer SO much. He gets super excited about his cases and he's ultra passionate. That's why I love going to court with my dad. When he articulates and presents information, I am impressed because he is really good at what he does. "Whatever you are, be a good one." -Abraham Lincoln

I love acting more than anything in the world.

Love,
Alex

Los Angeles - Purity Movie Premiere Interview

Wristcutters, A Love Story

Hey World,

This picture truly moved me. I enjoyed it because this film is so interesting and resonates on many levels. The overall message that spoke to me was that: We are so lucky to be alive. We don't appreciate life as we are living. Carpe diem. Whatever it is that we want, we can have. It's important that we enjoy our time on this planet and with each other.

Anyway, I loved the green and blue filters used in this film. It gave it a fantasy feel. The story is easy to fall into because you are consumed by a world that is the afterlife for those who "off themselves." What would life be like after you decide to "off yourself?"

What a great film with a wonderful message. The story is beautiful.

Ready to take on the day?

Love,
Lexi

Resumes

It is really important that your resume is formatted properly. The proper format is:

The top of the resume: YOUR NAME in large font
Just below your name: Your Union Status: SAG/AFTRA/AEA (if you are in the union(s))
Just below your union status: Your Website, Your email, your contact #, height, weight, eye color, hair color

Just below your contact info: Your experience should be grouped into appropriate categories such as: Film, Television, Theatre, Improv, Stand-Up Comedy, Commercials - Conflicts Available Upon Request, Education & Training, and Special Skills.

Each Category must have perfect spacing below it for the subgroups. For example:
FILM
The Break Up Featured Dancer d/Peyton Reed Universal Pictures

It must look this way: Film, Role, Director, Production Company

There MUST be an equal number of spaces so it looks clean and easy to read.

*Do include Improv Experienc
*Do list many special skills
*Do include your true height & weight
*Do include your acting training
*Do include STELLA ADLER or SECOND CITY if you have trained there

Don't write a bunch of acting teachers' names who no one knows.
Do NOT LIE on your resume.
Do Not include extra work
Do Not mispell anything or allow grammatical errors.

Your resume should not be hanging off your headshot. In other words, make sure to trim it down to perfect size so that it fits your headshot. (Casting Directors do NOT like it when your resume hangs off either edge).

If you have any resume concerns, ask a trustworthy acting coach! Compare your resume to one of their samples.

Back at LMU!! GO LIONS!

Hey World,

Today is Tuesday, August 31st: the first day of my last semester at Loyola Marymount University, the best school in the world! I love LMU so much. This fall I get to be a proud Lion again, which includes the following: lots of coffee, doing homework in advance in order to get my 2-a-Day work outs in, buying more LMU Lions stickers for my car (pretty ridiculous), laying out on the quad, enjoying KICKASS live bands on Tuesdays and Thursdays in between classes, constant FREE amazing food on campus...Well you get the idea, I love LMU. I am taking a full course load including two upper division level Public Relations courses, Debate, Communications in Relationships, an Independent Study at Sony Pictures Entertainment, and a private Acting class.

At LMU, this summer, I completed my PR Seminar (490) and enjoyed a practical experience working for a PR Firm. It was quite complementary to my acting career. PR continues to significantly impact successful business conduct.

Guess what?! I'm up 16% in popularity this week on IMDB!

I am currently working on finalizing my plans for the end of the PURITY feature film shoot in Chicago. After we finish our shoot, Jason and I will work on the final cut. Afterward, I have a shoot with my co-stars for the DVD Cover and movie posters. My co-stars have been wonderful work partners. Brandon Galatz is a passionate, motivated, intelligent, hard-working actor. In fact, he is one of the most reliable people I know. I call him anytime, anywhere, and no matter what he is doing, he will drop and give his full focus to me and to our work together. Brandon is Meisner-trained. I have a lot of respect for him and he does great work. I can relate to him since I also come from a background in Meisner. Besides, I am comfortable with him on set, and God knows, we have had some long bedroom scenes together!

Garrett Schude, who plays Collins, has such great energy! He refers to himself as "the corporate" one on set, which is a blessing to have...since everyone else is wildly creative. Garrett is confident, upbeat and ready to work! I love his enthusiasm on set!

I'm so lucky to be surrounded by a great group of people!

Troy Pryor is definitely a team player! Wow! Troy is talented, perseverant and relaxed on set. His focus and determination make him unstoppable!

Wanna Be An Actor?

Today's Topic: Your first Step, Acting Class
Where shall you begin your lifelong journey in the study of acting? Be careful. You do not want to take just any acting class. I recommend beginning with a basic Improv Class at The Second City. It will open you up, free your mind and give you the opportunity to enjoy Improv!

So my tip of the day: No matter what level of acting you have taken, every actor needs Improv and specifically you must take improv at Second City (Chicago preferably).

Love,
Alex

Wanna Be an Actor? You need headshots from Brian McConkey.

Hey World,

Multitudinous inquiries on the topic of Acting have led me to begin a new "Actors' Corner" of my EVERYDAY ENTOURAGE called Wanna Be An Actor?

Also, Random SideBar: I have re-designed my website !! Check it out!

Chapter One: The Beginning

So you want to be an actor? Are you sure? Before you can make that decision, you need to ask yourself: WHY?!!!??? Would you like a lifetime of disappointment? Are you prepared for an uphill battle? Are you an excruciatingly strong person with a deep sense of self, integrity, character and most importantly, discipline? If not...please stop reading and go on with a career in anything else. In fact, can you see yourself happy doing anything other than acting? Unless you LITERALLY cannot visualize yourself in any other pursuit...well...then, maybe you should give acting a shot.

How old are you? Just kidding. Contrary to popular belief, your age doesn't matter. Patricia Clarkson, a wonderfully talented, graduate of the Yale School of Drama, did not "make it" until she was 39 years old. However, she had studied and worked her entire life in order to build a solid foundation.

Are you willing to work through 10,20,or 30 years? Are you seeking recognition? Hopefully not! This is not a glamorous endeavor, in the beginning. Malheureusement (unfortunately), the life of a serious, committed, working actor is not what it seems. Although many successful stars shine in the light, what goes on off set, backstage, and in their own personal lives, often continues to be quite dark, depressing and pitiƩ. (pitiful)

Where shall we begin?
HEADSHOTS Every actor needs a sharp headshot. Your headshot is key since it represents YOU. Not only that, but it is the first impression that an industry professional will have of you.

Do
☆Look exactly like your headshot
☆Have a Commercial and Theatrical Headshot
☆Wear a similar shirt or same-colored shirt as your headshot to an audition
☆Spend $200-400 on your headshots
☆Book a Consulation with a photographer to discuss in advance
☆Make sure your hair and makeup are clean and have someone on site to monitor this
☆Present yourself the way you normally do
☆Find a photographer who you feel comfortable with
*I recommend: Brian McConkey (Chicago) and Scott Miller (Los Angeles)

Do NOT
^Have a "friend" do your headshots for you
^Wear Excessive Makeup
^Do anything to your hair that you wouldn't be able to do yourself
^Get new headshots without a consultation

What I love about Brian McConkey, is that throughout the years, I have developed a comfortable relationship with him. I love shooting with him because I am myself. It is easy for us to work together since we are both comfortable. You will find that when you build a good relationship with your photographer, you will be comfortable and take great photos!

I hope that this has been helpful to many of you who have asked me, "What is the first step in acting?" My first response would be: Know yourself. Know who you are and begin the process of self-discovery. I think that the first proactive step in pursuing Acting has two parts: 1) Begin Acting Class 2) Begin Headshot Consultations

Love,
Alex
